I have over 10 year’s teaching experience and have taught young children right up to retirees. I’m a qualified classroom and instrumental teacher however have decided to follow my passion – teaching instrumental music to mature-aged learners!
I have a YouTube channel where I offer free lessons – check it out to see what my teaching style is like!
You can also follow me on Facebook to ensure you never miss a thing!
I start all my lessons asking you, the student, what you want to achieve. Whether that’s learning an instrument as a complete beginner, picking up the instrument after a long break, working through exams or even improving a specific aspect of your playing such as tone, technical ability or instrument specific aspects such as squeaking.
Next, I’ll get you to play something. Anything at all! A scale, piece, anything! This quickly gives me an idea of your ability and playing habits. From here I’ll often share some music for you to sightread and then come up with a plan to ensure you get the most out of your lessons.
After our lesson, I’ll write out some lesson notes and link various resources into this shared document so that you know what we talked about and worked on during the lesson.
I have been a clarinet player for a number of years, playing in a few bands in my youth, but never really achieved much. Monique has not only "cleaned-up" my playing but also helped me assault the heights of the Altissimo range of notes. My Alto Sax playing has received some improvement thanks to Monique also. Monique assists me in my composing by patiently reviewing each piece and giving necessary feedback. Monique has also been engaged as a conductor for the ensemble I play in and has been very successful in honing all our skills to be a cohesive, well rounded ensemble.

I've been enjoying Zoom lessons with Monique for just over one year now. I learned clarinet for years at school, then last year picked it up again after a 30 year break. I am really happy that I found Monique to support me on this journey. I work full time and have a family so finding time to play the clarinet is sometimes tricky. Monique's weekly lessons motivate me to find the time for clarinet practice. I always come away from our half hour lesson feeling relaxed and positive. I'd recommend Monique's lessons to any adult learner who wants to re/discover music in their life.

I've learnt the flute off and on for many years. For the past two years I've had the great fortune of being taught by Monique. She has been exceptional at tailoring her teaching to me, and keeping me engaged and challenged week-to-week. This is the best progress I have made, and I could not have done it without her! Thanks for helping me, as we work towards achieving my long held desire to play with a beautiful mellow tone. You are so positive and encouraging.
